Emergency Response Flood Relief for 35 Displaced Families in Kodikamam After Cyclone Ditwah

Cyclone Ditwah has brought heavy rainfall and severe flooding across parts of Sri Lanka, leaving many families suddenly displaced and in urgent need of support. One of the affected communities is Kodikamam Village, located under the Thenmarachchi Divisional Secretariat in the Jaffna District.

To help families during this difficult time, Vanni Hope provided essential flood relief to support their immediate needs and ensure they had access to basic necessities while recovery efforts continue.

Supporting 35 Families Displaced by Floods

A total of 35 families from Kodikamam were forced to leave their homes as floodwaters rose quickly, making their living conditions unsafe. These families are now taking temporary shelter at Kodikamam Thirunavukkarasu Primary School, where they are staying until it is safe to return home.

Vanni Hope responded promptly to ensure every displaced family received timely assistance. Our team worked closely with community members and local leaders to provide relief items that would help stabilise their situation during the first days of displacement.

Meeting Immediate Needs in a Time of Crisis

The floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah disrupted access to essential items such as food, clean water and basic household necessities. Many families had little time to gather belongings before leaving their homes, making emergency relief crucial.

Vanni Hope’s support included

  • Providing essential relief items to 35 displaced families
  • Ensuring vulnerable groups such as children, elderly residents and women received special consideration
  • Coordinating distribution with community representatives for efficient and fair delivery

This assistance played an important role in helping families maintain their wellbeing during an extremely challenging time.

Continuing Our Commitment to Affected Communities

The support provided in Kodikamam is part of Vanni Hope’s broader emergency response to Cyclone Ditwah across Sri Lanka. As more areas continue to experience flooding and displacement, our teams are preparing additional response activities to help families recover and rebuild.

Vanni Hope remains committed to standing with affected communities, ensuring they receive the care and support they need as they begin the long recovery process.
