Following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, several communities in the Mannar District experienced severe flooding, leading to sudden displacement and loss of essential belongings. Among the affected areas were Pattithottam, Selvanagar, Keeri, and Tharavangottai villages, located under the Mannar Town Divisional Secretariat.
To support families during this difficult period, Vanni Hope extended essential flood-relief assistance, ensuring that affected households received immediate care and support as they began the recovery process.
Supporting Displaced Families Across Four Villages
A total of 23 families, comprising 92 individuals, were severely affected by the floods and forced to leave their homes due to unsafe conditions. Many families lost clothing and basic household items, leaving them vulnerable and in urgent need of assistance.
Vanni Hope responded promptly, working closely with the community to identify displaced households and ensure timely delivery of relief to those most in need.
Emergency Dry-Food Distribution
As part of the emergency response, dry-food packs were distributed to all 23 affected families, providing essential supplies to support daily food needs during displacement. This assistance helped stabilise households at a time when access to food and basic necessities was limited.
The support offered relief and reassurance to families facing uncertainty, helping them regain a sense of dignity and security during the early stages of recovery.
