Vanni Hope has swiftly responded to the urgent needs of families affected by a devastating landslide in Langtle Estate, located within the Somerset Grama Niladhari Division of Nuwara Eliya District. As part of our Emergency Response initiatives, we provided emergency dry food relief to 28 families, helping them meet their immediate nutritional needs during a critical time.
A Swift Response to a Sudden Crisis
Langtle Estate is a remote, underserved area where most residents depend on daily wage labour and estate work. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, left many families facing extreme hardship. With limited access to emergency supplies and a stable income, the need for immediate food assistance was urgent and critical.
In response, Vanni Hope quickly mobilised to provide emergency relief. Each family received a dry food pack containing essential items, such as rice, dhal, canned fish, sugar, salt, and biscuits — enough to support their household’s nutritional needs during a period of recovery.
Delivering Relief With Compassion
We coordinated the procurement, packaging, and distribution of the food packs directly to affected families. This rapid, well-organised response provided not only immediate nourishment but also a sense of security and community care to those impacted.
Our goal was to reduce food insecurity and prevent the onset of malnutrition, particularly among children, the elderly, and other at-risk groups.
Supporting Families Through Emergency Action
This emergency relief effort is one example of how Vanni Hope remains committed to providing fast, effective, and compassionate support when communities are struck by disaster. By acting swiftly, we help stabilise lives and create a pathway for long-term recovery.
We extend our sincere thanks to every donor, partner, and volunteer who made this timely intervention possible.
