Severe heavy rainfall and landslides linked to Cyclone Ditwah recently impacted Holbrook in the Agarapathana area of the Nuwara Eliya District. These conditions caused widespread disruption to daily life, damaging frequently used facilities, creating safety concerns, and making transportation extremely difficult for residents.
Many families reported struggling to carry out everyday activities and access essential services due to limited resources and unsafe conditions following the disaster.
Families Affected
Through field assessments and community consultations, 15 families, comprising 79 individuals, were identified as being significantly affected by the landslides and heavy rainfall in Holbrook, Agarapathana.
These households faced ongoing challenges related to shelter, cooking, and basic household needs during the recovery period.
Assistance Provided
In response, Vanni Hope Sri Lanka provided targeted household and livelihood assistance to the affected families. Support was delivered based on direct conversations with community members about their most urgent needs.
Each family received essential household items, including gas cookers, mattresses, plates, cups, cutlery, and crockery. These items were selected to help families safely prepare food, rest, and resume basic daily routines with dignity.
