The newly constructed Vaithilingam Spectator Pavilion at the Urumpirai Thirukumarans Sports Club was officially inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in Vanni Hope’s ongoing efforts to revitalise community spaces in the Northern Province. Located in Urumpirai South Village, Jaffna District, this initiative is part of our Sports Empowerment program, which falls under the Community Development pillar.
This project was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Nalliah Foundation – USA, and reflects our joint commitment to strengthening the wellbeing and aspirations of local youth through sport.

A Space to Unite, Inspire and EmpowerThe Spectator Pavilion was inaugurated by Vanni Hope’s Chairman, Mr. Ranjan Sivagnasundaram, and Director and Secretary, Dr. Malathi Waran, in the presence of the Divisional Village Development Officer and members of the Thirukumarans Sports Club. The new facility offers a safe, functional, and welcoming space for children, youth, and sports enthusiasts throughout the village and its surrounding communities.
Urumpirai is a village that has endured years of post-war hardship, including loss of infrastructure and reduced youth engagement. With the opening of this pavilion, the community gains not only a physical structure but a renewed sense of unity and hope.

Building Community through SportThe Vaithilingam Spectator Pavilion, named in honour of the family that generously donated the land generations ago, is designed to serve over 500 local beneficiaries. It provides a structured venue for training, tournaments, and community gatherings, designed to promote fitness, resilience, and social inclusion.
In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles and positive youth engagement, the project is also expected to contribute to the local economy by creating opportunities for small businesses and part-time employment tied to sports and events.
