In the remote village of Panama in Sri Lanka’s Ampara district, a young child living with a disability has received a wheelchair through Vanni Hope’s Health Enhancement Initiative. This support comes as a life-changing intervention for a family that had been struggling to carry their child daily due to a chronic condition that severely limited the child’s mobility.
After receiving a formal request from the Divisional Secretariat of Panama, Vanni Hope promptly assessed the situation and delivered a practical solution. The child’s inability to walk meant simple tasks like getting to school, attending clinic appointments, or even moving around the house were impossible without constant physical support from family members.
Restoring Independence and Hope
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Mr. Yogaratnam Suthan, the family was provided with a quality commode wheelchair tailored to their needs. This not only restores a measure of independence for the child but also significantly eases the burden on caregivers.
The new wheelchair means the child can now participate more fully in daily life, whether it’s going to school or simply enjoying time outdoors. For the family, this support has lifted a significant emotional and physical weight, replacing it with renewed hope.
A Reflection of Our Health Enhancement Mission
This project is part of Vanni Hope’s broader Health Enhancement Initiative, which focuses on providing essential medical equipment and support to individuals in vulnerable situations. From elderly care to disability assistance, our goal is to respond promptly and effectively to health-related needs throughout Sri Lanka.
We are grateful to Mr. Yogaratnam Suthan for sponsoring this initiative and making a lasting impact on a child’s life.
