Honouring Childhood and Community in Srivallipuram

Every child deserves opportunities to feel valued, express themselves and experience the joy of being part of a supportive community. In Srivallipuram village, located in the Thirukkovil division of Ampara district, International Children’s Day became a meaningful occasion to recognize the children who participated in the village’s after school education and student nutrition centre.

The celebration brought together children, local officials and community members for a special gathering that placed the happiness, talents and well being of young learners at the heart of the occasion.

Creating Moments That Matter

The event offered children a welcome opportunity to step away from their usual educational activities and enjoy a day dedicated to them.

A special meal was arranged as part of the festivities, creating an opportunity for the children to come together and share in the celebration.

Sports activities also formed an important part of the programme, allowing participants to demonstrate their abilities, engage with their peers and enjoy friendly competition.

These activities encouraged participation and provided a space where children could express their enthusiasm, develop confidence and celebrate their individual strengths.

Recognizing Every Child’s Potential

One of the highlights of the celebration was the prize giving ceremony, which acknowledged the children’s participation and achievements throughout the activities.

The presentation of awards brought a sense of excitement and recognition to the occasion, reinforcing the importance of encouraging children as they explored their interests and abilities.

Beyond the prizes themselves, the event emphasized the value of creating positive childhood experiences where young people felt included, appreciated and motivated.

A Community United for Its Children

The celebration was attended by the Grama Niladhari, development officer and village headman, alongside members of the local community.

Their presence reflected the shared importance placed on children’s development and the role of community involvement in creating nurturing environments for young learners.

The gathering also highlighted the broader purpose of the after school education and student nutrition centre, which provided an important setting for supporting children’s learning, nutrition and well being.

By bringing educational support together with opportunities for recreation and personal development, the centre contributed to a more supportive environment for children in Srivallipuram.

Continuing to Nurture Young Lives

The International Children’s Day celebration concluded with happy memories, recognition of the children’s talents and a renewed appreciation for the importance of investing in their development.

The occasion demonstrated how meaningful experiences, encouragement and community participation could contribute to children’s confidence and sense of belonging.

Sincere appreciation was extended to The Calais Foundation for its generous sponsorship of the initiative and for the continued support of the after school education and student nutrition centre.

Together, these contributions helped create opportunities for children in Srivallipuram to learn, grow and experience the care and encouragement of their community.
