We are proud to announce the successful completion of a Moral Education Support Project in Vantharumoolai, Batticaloa District, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, aimed at promoting ethical learning, cultural preservation, and spiritual development among rural students.
This initiative supported Sri Gananatha Moral School, a Aranery institution dedicated to nurturing discipline, devotion, and traditional values among young learners. By strengthening the foundation of moral education, the project empowers students to embrace their heritage with confidence and pride.
The project was generously sponsored by the Nalliah Foundation, USA, whose support made it possible to enhance the school’s educational environment and ensure the continuation of cultural and moral instruction in the community.
Preserving Culture and Promoting Ethical Learning
Located in the resettled and war-affected region of Vantharumoolai, the school serves students from families facing economic and social hardships. With limited access to quality education, local institutions like Sri Gananatha Moral School play a crucial role in shaping values, discipline, and identity among children.
The project focused on strengthening moral and spiritual education through activities surrounding the annual Saraswathi Pooja, an event honouring the Goddess of Knowledge, Wisdom, and Learning. This celebration reinforces the significance of education and devotion, inspiring students to respect tradition and live by moral principles.
Through this initiative, Vanni Hope provided financial assistance and project support to ensure that the event could be conducted in a spiritually uplifting and inclusive environment, promoting unity, participation, and joy among students and teachers alike.
Nurturing Knowledge and Cultural Pride
The project enabled 150 students to actively engage in the preparations and rituals of Saraswathi Pooja, encouraging them to connect deeply with their cultural and ethical roots. Teachers reported enhanced student enthusiasm and stronger appreciation for traditions, scripture learning, and moral instruction.
This initiative not only preserved traditional practices but also enhanced classroom morale, improved participation, and fostered a sense of belonging among students. By empowering teachers and providing institutional support, the project contributed to the long term sustainability of moral education in the Batticaloa region.
Building Values Based Education for the Future
The success of this project reflects the broader mission of Vanni Hope, to strengthen communities through education, cultural continuity, and moral empowerment. By supporting institutions like Sri Gananatha Moral School, Vanni Hope ensures that future generations inherit both knowledge and the values that sustain social harmony and respect for heritage.
