The recent heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka has caused devastating floods, displacing thousands of families and tragically taking lives. Remote villages, particularly in the Batticaloa district, have been severely affected, with families losing their homes, livelihoods, and belongings. According to the Disaster Management Unit, 1,815 families (4,945 individuals) in Batticaloa’s Manmunai South, Manmunai North, Koralaipattru, Manmunai South West, and Kiran divisions have been displaced. Many are staying in welfare centres, while others have sought refuge with relatives after their homes became uninhabitable due to the flooding. These families, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, are enduring unimaginable hardships.
