We are excited to share the inspiring journey of Mahendran, a resident of Puthur, Kathiraveli in Batticaloa District, as part of Vanni Hope’s Sustainable Livelihood Project. With generous sponsorship from Raj Sivagnandarajah & his family in Canada, and support from Vanni Hope, Mahendran and his family have embarked on a transformative path through poultry farming.
Facing the challenges of deteriorating vision, Mahendran had become increasingly reliant on others for support. Recognising the difficult position his family was in, Vanni Hope designed this project to empower his wife to step up as the primary breadwinner. As part of this initiative, the family was provided with all the essential resources needed to establish and maintain a thriving poultry farm. This included chicks, a custom-built coop, chicken feed, a heat lamp, bowls, and all other necessary equipment to ensure that the farm runs smoothly.
By providing the Mahendran family with the right tools and training, we have helped them establish a sustainable income source, ensuring long-term economic stability. The poultry farming project not only provides the family with immediate financial relief but also offers them the opportunity to expand and grow their business over time. As Mahendran’s wife takes the reins in managing the farm, she has gained newfound confidence and independence, knowing that 
she can support her family even as her husband’s health challenges grow.
This initiative is part of Vanni Hope’s broader commitment to uplifting families in underserved communities, helping them overcome adversity through sustainable solutions. We are proud to play a part in their journey towards a more secure future and are committed to continuing our efforts to empower families like Mahendran’s across Sri Lanka.
