Inland Fishing Success in Paddalipuram

We are excited to share the success of Vanni Hope’s Sustainable Aquaculture initiative in Paddalipuram, Trincomalee District. In collaboration with the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) and the Omega Fishing Society, and with generous support from Tamil Forum Malaysia (TFM), this project at Illakanthai Tank has significantly boosted the livelihoods of local fishermen. By providing 150,000 fish fingerlings, fishing nets, and essential fishing equipment, we are helping to cultivate sustainable fishing practices that support economic growth.

Before this initiative, local fishermen faced immense challenges in sustaining their families. Now, thanks to these resources, they earn between 5,000 to 10,000 LKR daily. This steady income has improved not just their financial situation but also their ability to invest in their children’s education and overall living conditions. By addressing their immediate needs and fostering a sustainable livelihood, the project is making a long-lasting impact.

Vanni Hope’s commitment doesn’t end here. We are actively working to provide further training and development to the fishermen, ensuring that these sustainable practices continue to thrive. Our goal is to transform Paddalipuram into a model fishing community, showcasing the benefits of sustainable development for others to follow.

This project is about more than just economic growth. It embodies hope, resilience, and community-driven change. Together with our partners and generous sponsors, we are proving that thoughtful collaboration can lead to meaningful, sustainable development in Sri Lanka’s rural communities.
