Vanni Hope Sponsors Cataract Surgeries in Trincomalee

Vanni Hope is pleased to announce our latest initiative, aimed at enhancing eye care services in Trincomalee District, Sri Lanka, with the Cataract Eye Surgery project. In partnership with the District General Hospital in Trincomalee, we are focusing on providing critical eye surgeries to underprivileged individuals in need.

Addressing the Challenge of Cataract Blindness

Blindness caused by cataracts is a growing health issue in Sri Lanka, particularly among the elderly population. Cataracts, along with other conditions like glaucoma and diabetic nephropathy, contribute significantly to vision loss in the region. Many affected individuals struggle to afford the necessary surgeries due to high costs and limited access to resources. By providing free cataract surgeries, Vanni Hope is stepping in to bridge the gap, helping these vulnerable people regain their vision and improve their quality of life.

Project Goals and Implementation

Our project aims to provide 60 patients from various underserved areas in Trincomalee District with the opportunity to receive cataract surgery at no cost. This initiative includes not only the surgeries but also the provision of essential nutritional food packs to aid in post-surgery recovery. We are focusing on areas including Kinniya, Mutur, Thampalakamam, Kuchaveli, Town & Gravets, and Verugal. By addressing this urgent health need, Vanni Hope continues to fulfill its mission of supporting the wellbeing of Sri Lanka’s most vulnerable populations.
