Strengthening Emergency Care at Galaha Hospital

Access to reliable medical equipment is essential for healthcare professionals responding to patients who require urgent assessment and close observation. At Galaha Divisional Hospital in the Kandy District, urgently needed medical equipment was donated to strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide timely and effective care to the surrounding community.

The donation was officially presented during an event organized by the “Bloom 2026” Organizing Committee, in collaboration with AIESEC in Colombo North and the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town.

Supporting Critical Patient Monitoring

Galaha Hospital’s Emergency Treatment Unit provides essential care to patients from surrounding communities, including those arriving with critical or potentially life-threatening conditions.

Limited access to appropriate monitoring equipment had created challenges for healthcare staff, particularly when patients required continuous observation. The new equipment helped strengthen the hospital’s capacity to identify changes in a patient’s condition and respond more effectively during emergency situations.

Essential Equipment for Timely Care

The donation included a multiparameter patient monitor and a 3-channel ECG machine.

The patient monitor supported healthcare professionals in continuously observing vital signs, including for critically ill adult and paediatric patients. The ECG machine provided an important tool for assessing and monitoring cardiac activity, helping healthcare staff make informed clinical decisions when timely assessment was essential.

Together, the equipment strengthened the hospital’s patient monitoring and cardiac diagnostic capacity while reducing some of the challenges associated with manually monitoring patients.

Collaboration in Support of Healthcare

The donation event brought together the Bloom 2026 Organizing Committee, AIESEC in Colombo North and the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town around a shared commitment to supporting healthcare services.

Their collaboration demonstrated how community organizations and young people could contribute meaningfully to addressing practical needs within local healthcare facilities.

A Lasting Contribution to the Community

The new medical equipment will continue to support healthcare professionals as they assess, monitor and care for patients at Galaha Hospital. By strengthening the resources available within the Emergency Treatment Unit, the initiative contributed to more efficient patient monitoring and improved capacity to respond to urgent healthcare needs.

The medical equipment was generously sponsored by Thamo and Pushpam Gangatharan from Australia, helping provide Galaha Hospital with essential resources to better serve patients and families across the surrounding communities.
