Providing Drinking Water Supply Connection for 15 Families in Thirukkovil

Vanni Hope is proud to have successfully implemented a Water for Life Project in Gayathripuram, Thirukkovil DS Division, Ampara District, providing 15 vulnerable families with access to safe drinking water. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the National Water Supply & Drainage Board (NWSDB), was generously sponsored by Micos Aluminum – Australia.

Addressing Water Scarcity in Rural Communities

Many families in rural Sri Lanka, especially those in Ampara District, struggle with limited access to clean drinking water, which directly impacts their health, well-being, and daily living conditions. The families in Gayathripuram previously relied on inconsistent and unhygienic water sources, making it difficult to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation.

By installing dedicated water supply connections for these families, this project has significantly improved their quality of life, ensuring safe, reliable, and long-term access to potable water.

A Collaborative Approach to Sustainable Solutions

Vanni Hope worked closely with the NWSDB and local authorities to ensure the successful implementation of this project.

The project followed a structured financial plan that allowed beneficiaries to gradually contribute to the cost of maintaining their water supply, fostering a sense of ownership and sustainability within the community. The initial connection fees were covered by Vanni Hope, and the beneficiaries will make small, manageable monthly payments towards their bills.

The Impact on Families and the Community

The provision of clean drinking water has led to:

  • Improved health and hygiene for families, particularly children and the elderly
  • Better sanitation conditions, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases
  • Time savings for families, as they no longer need to travel long distances to fetch water
  • Stronger community resilience, with increased awareness about water conservation and sanitation management

This project has directly benefited around 70 individuals within 15 households, creating lasting change in their daily lives.

A Step Towards a Healthier Future

The Water for Life Project is one of many initiatives led by Vanni Hope to support vulnerable communities with essential resources for long-term well-being. Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, and we remain committed to expanding similar projects in other rural areas of Sri Lanka.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Micos Aluminum – Australia for their generous sponsorship and to our dedicated partners at the National Water Supply & Drainage Board for making this initiative possible.
