A Safer Home and New Hope for a Family of 7 in Jaffna

A vulnerable family living in Thaiyiddy South, Jaffna, experienced a meaningful transformation through a housing renovation and safe water support initiative carried out by Vanni Hope.

The beneficiary family consisted of seven members, including two young children, an elderly mother, and a grandmother. Due to severe financial difficulties and an unstable daily wage income, the family struggled to meet their basic living needs. Although they had previously received support to begin building a permanent home, the construction remained incomplete due to financial constraints, leaving the family to continue living in unsafe and challenging conditions.

To address these urgent needs, several key improvements were successfully completed under this initiative to create a safer, healthier, and more secure living environment for the family.

Access to Safe and Reliable Water

One of the most important components of the project was the construction of a borewell to provide the family with reliable access to clean water.

Prior to the project, the family faced ongoing difficulties in obtaining water for drinking, cooking, and daily household use. The newly constructed borewell has now ensured consistent access to safe water, significantly improving the family’s day to day living conditions and reducing the burden they previously faced.

                                              Improving safety and living conditions 

The project also included extensive plastering work for both the interior and exterior walls of the home. These improvements enhanced the overall appearance of the house while also strengthening the durability and stability of the structure.

In addition, doors were installed to improve the safety and security of the household. These additions created a more secure environment for the family, especially for the young children and elderly members living in the home.

Land preparation work was also completed to support better use of the surrounding space and improve the overall condition of the property.

A Meaningful and Lasting Impact

Through these improvements, the project has brought significant positive change to the family’s quality of life. Access to safe drinking water has now been secured, the living environment has become cleaner and more stable, and the family can live with greater dignity, comfort, and peace of mind.

These changes have contributed not only to the family’s physical well being, but also to their emotional and social well being by helping create a safer and more hopeful future.

Celebrating Compassion Through Giving

This initiative was generously sponsored by Dr. Ananth Sundaralingam and Family from Australia in celebration of Dr. Ananth Sundaralingam’s 50th birthday.

As part of the visit, a special cake cutting ceremony was held together with the beneficiary family to mark this meaningful milestone and celebrate the spirit of giving and compassion behind the project. The occasion became a memorable moment for both the sponsor and the family, highlighting the lasting impact that kindness and community support can have on vulnerable families.
