A new Educational Centre was officially inaugurated in Srivallipuram, Kanchiramkuda, within the Thirukkovil Divisional Secretariat Division of Ampara District, Sri Lanka. This meaningful initiative was launched by the Sri Vallipuram Rural Development Society under the supervision of the Divisional Secretary and the Zonal Director of Education to strengthen educational opportunities for children living in this underserved rural community.
he newly established centre will provide free evening classes for approximately 75 students from Grades 1 to 11, helping children access consistent academic support in a safe and encouraging learning environment. Classes will be conducted daily from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, offering students additional guidance in core subjects and helping improve their educational performance.
Supporting Children in a Remote Community
Srivallipuram is a remote village located nearly 6 to 7 kilometres away from the nearest main road, with no proper public transportation available for residents. Many school children are required to travel long distances on foot under difficult conditions in order to continue their education. Families in the area continue to face significant socio economic hardships, with many relying on unstable and irregular income sources. As a result, private tuition and transportation remain unaffordable for many households.
Recognizing these challenges, the evening tuition centre was created to ensure that children from marginalized backgrounds receive equal access to educational support and learning opportunities. The project is expected to improve academic performance, increase school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and encourage long term educational development within the community.
Creating a Strong Foundation for Learning
The initiative includes the recruitment of qualified teachers, daily evening classes, regular student assessments, and ongoing monitoring of attendance and academic progress. Education officials and community leaders will continue to supervise and support the programme to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.
The project also emphasizes strong collaboration between the Rural Development Society, local education authorities, and the wider community. Through this collective effort, the centre aims to create a nurturing environment where children can continue learning with confidence and hope for a brighter future.
Empowering 75 Students Through Education
This educational initiative is expected to directly benefit 75 students while creating a lasting positive impact across the wider Srivallipuram community. Beyond improving academic results, the centre represents a step toward reducing educational inequality and supporting children who face barriers to learning due to poverty and geographic isolation.
Vanni Hope sincerely thanks the generous support of Calais Foundation Australia for making this important initiative possible. Their contribution is helping create better educational opportunities and brighter futures for children in Srivallipuram.
