Vanni Hope recently completed a heartwarming initiative to celebrate the Tamil and Sinhala New Year at the Vipulanantha Boys’ Home, located in the Vellaveli DS Division of Batticaloa District. As part of our ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of children in care, we provided brand-new garments to all 51 boys residing at the home, enabling them to fully partake in the cultural celebrations with pride and happiness.
Fostering Belonging Through Cultural Celebrations
Cultural traditions, such as the Tamil and Sinhala New Year, play an important role in shaping identity and fostering a sense of community. For children growing up in institutional care, such events offer opportunities for connection, joy, and a sense of normalcy. The simple gift of new clothes during festive occasions helps these children feel included and valued.
This initiative went beyond material support—it uplifted spirits and created cherished memories for each child. The boys were visibly excited to receive their new clothes and join in the celebrations with renewed energy and confidence. It was a reminder of how small gestures can create lasting emotional impact.
Continuing a Tradition of Support
Vanni Hope has supported the Vipulanantha Boys’ Home for many years through our Community Development programs. This latest project is part of our broader mission to ensure that no child is left behind—especially when it comes to accessing meaningful, joyful life experiences.
By honouring traditions and recognising the importance of cultural events, we are not only nurturing cultural pride but also promoting emotional wellbeing and social inclusion among vulnerable children.
