At Vanni Hope, we believe that meaningful change begins by truly listening to the voices of the communities we serve. That spirit was at the heart of today’s orientation meetings for our Women’s Empowerment Project, held in Polikandy and Valvettithurai South in the Point Pedro DS Division of Jaffna District.
These sessions brought together two inspiring women’s groups, initiating a journey of economic empowerment, skill-building, and leadership. The orientation wasn’t just about outlining our plans — it was about creating space for the women themselves to share their aspirations, challenges, and priorities.
A Collaborative Approach to Sustainable Empowerment
The meetings were attended by local Rural Development Officers along with Mr. Seelan (Eastern Province Coordinator at Vanni Hope), Mr. Lavanyan, and Mr. Selvathasan. Together, they led a collaborative conversation around:
- Vanni Hope’s mission and commitment to equitable development
- Our approach to sustainable women’s empowerment is grounded in community-led action
- The structure and purpose of our revolving loan system, designed to support income-generating activities
- Transparent repayment and monitoring processes in collaboration with local stakeholders
Centring Women’s Voices
The women in these groups are not just beneficiaries — they are leaders in their own right. By supporting their efforts to grow small businesses, manage household finances, and take on leadership roles in their communities, we are reinforcing a powerful message: their voices matter, their potential is real, and their contributions are vital to Sri Lanka’s future.
Looking Ahead
This orientation marks the beginning of a new chapter in our work in the Northern Province. As we move forward with training, financial support, and mentorship, we remain grounded in our mission: to walk alongside rural women and amplify their capacity to lead, grow, and thrive.

Hello,
Do you offer any volunteering programs, work and travel options or internships, especially in the projects regarding women’s empowerment? :)
Hi Helena,
We don’t generally offer a formal volunteer program, however we do offer donors the opportunity to see the projects they sponsor as well as have our field officers accompany them to explain the situation. Although, in recent times we have collborated with groups like the Aram Initiative who bring a group of young adults to visit and be involved with our projects for a few days. You can certainly reach out to them if that’s of interest to you. In regards to internships, we do offer university students the opoportunity to complete an internship with us, recently we had a rotary peace fellow from Japan do her internship with us. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask :).
