Restoring Mobility, Dignity, and Hope

This humanitarian initiative, generously sponsored by Mr. Sri Kulasegaram, was launched to enhance the health and well being of a vulnerable family in Mutur, Trincomalee District. Through Vanni Hope’s Health Support Project, essential mobility assistance was provided to improve the quality of life of Mr. Mahendran, a 68 year old individual living with disability, and his family. This effort reflects Vanni Hope’s commitment to supporting under resourced families across Sri Lanka, ensuring that even the smallest acts of compassion can restore independence, dignity, and hope.

Overcoming Challenges with Compassion

In the rural village of Narayanapuram, Thoppor, Mr. Mahendran has faced years of hardship due to chronic illness and disability.
Limited mobility and economic struggles made it nearly impossible for him to access the medical care or assistive devices he desperately needed.

His wife, who also has a disability, depends heavily on their son’s modest income. For years, the family endured the emotional and physical toll of immobility and isolation.
Recognizing this urgent need, Vanni Hope stepped in to provide a wheelchair, a vital tool to restore mobility and improve daily living conditions.

Providing Tools for Independence

The Health Support Project aimed to deliver more than equipment, it sought to renew dignity and participation in family and community life.

• Conducting a needs assessment and reviewing medical documentation.
• Procuring a wheelchair suited to Mr. Mahendran’s specific physical needs.
