Disability support project for 125 families in Vellaveli Batticaloa

Providing Mosquito Nets and Bed Sheets for 125 Families with Persons with Disabilities in Vellaveli

Vanni Hope proudly launched a special initiative aimed at supporting 125 families with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Vellaveli Division, Batticaloa District. As part of our ongoing Disability Support Project under the Health Enhancement category, we distributed essential mosquito nets and bed sheets to improve living conditions and promote health and wellbeing within these communities.

This project was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Social Services and the Divisional Secretariat of Vellaveli, ensuring that the families most in need received this crucial support.

Why This Initiative Matters

Families with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) often face unique challenges, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Access to basic necessities like proper bedding and mosquito protection can significantly impact health outcomes. In regions like Batticaloa District, where mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue fever are a serious concern, providing mosquito nets is a simple yet effective way to prevent disease and protect vulnerable populations.

Additionally, providing clean and durable bed sheets contributes to improving personal hygiene and living conditions, offering a small but meaningful enhancement to daily life.

Empowering Families and Building Community Support

This initiative reflects Vanni Hope’s commitment to inclusive community development, focusing on the specific needs of Persons with Disabilities and their families. By working closely with local government bodies like the Department of Social Services, we ensure that our outreach is both impactful and sustainable.

We believe that every individual deserves access to basic health protections and that through thoughtful community engagement, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those who are often overlooked.

Celebrating Persons with Disabilities

This project was more than just a distribution drive—it was a celebration of resilience, inclusion, and community spirit. Recognising the rights and needs of Persons with Disabilities is an essential part of creating a more equitable society. Initiatives like this align with our broader mission to empower communities and foster social inclusion across Sri Lanka.

Our Commitment Continues

At Vanni Hope, we remain dedicated to supporting health and wellbeing for all, especially those in vulnerable and marginalised communities. Our Disability Support Projects aim to uplift individuals and families by providing not only essential resources but also opportunities for long-term empowerment.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners at the Department of Social Services and the Vellaveli Divisional Secretariat for their collaboration and ongoing support. Together, we continue to build healthier, more inclusive communities.
