Urgent Assistance for Families Affected by Fire in Yatiyantota
On the early morning of the 4th of July 2024, a devastating fire broke out in the Yatiyantota, Panawatte 2nd Division of Kegalle District. This tragic event resulted in the complete destruction of five homes, displacing 18 individuals and claiming the lives of two family members.
The affected families lost everything, including their homes, clothing, and essential items. School-going children lost their books, uniforms, and other learning materials, significantly impacting their education. Currently, these families are temporarily sheltered at the Panawatte Tamil Vidyalaya, lacking even basic amenities.
In response to this dire situation, Vanni Hope, under our Emergency Relief Assistance Program, has stepped in to provide vital support. We have distributed dry food parcels and essential learning materials, including school uniforms, to the affected families. Our immediate support aims to address the urgent needs of these families and ensure that the children’s education can continue despite the tragedy.
We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our donors and well-wishers, which enables us to act swiftly in times of crisis. Your generosity is making a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we are bringing hope and relief to communities in their darkest hours.
