With the objective of enhancing students’ IT skills and expanding access to modern learning opportunities, World Vision Lanka and Vanni Hope jointly launched a Smart Board Education Program for 50 selected schools across Sri Lanka. As part of this national initiative, smart boards and related innovative learning facilities were officially handed over to CP/HZ/Wattawala Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Hatton and CP/HZ/Bogawana Killarney Tamil Vidyalayam in Bogawantalawa, benefiting a total of 1,158 students.
Bringing Digital Learning to Rural Classrooms
The introduction of smart board technology marks an important step toward modernizing classroom education in rural communities. Students and teachers now have access to interactive digital learning tools that support a more engaging and effective educational experience.
The new facilities will help create dynamic classroom environments where lessons can be delivered using multimedia resources, visual demonstrations, and interactive learning activities that enhance student participation and understanding.
Supporting Students in Hatton and Bogawantalawa
The project was implemented at two schools within Sri Lanka’s Central Province.
CP/HZ/Wattawala Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Hatton serves approximately 682 students from Grades 1 to 13, while CP/HZ/Bogawana Killarney Tamil Vidyalayam in Bogawantalawa provides education for approximately 476 students. Together, these schools support 1,158 students who will now benefit from improved access to digital learning opportunities.
Enhancing IT Skills and Future Opportunities
Beyond improving classroom teaching, the Smart Board Education Program aims to strengthen students’ digital literacy and information technology skills. As technology continues to play an increasingly important role in education and employment, access to digital learning tools is essential in preparing young people for future academic and career opportunities.
The initiative will help students develop confidence in using technology while providing teachers with innovative methods to deliver lessons and improve learning outcomes.
Creating More Interactive and Engaging Learning Environments
The smart boards and supporting facilities were introduced to encourage greater student engagement and participation during lessons. Interactive learning methods can help simplify complex concepts, improve knowledge retention, and make classroom experiences more enjoyable for students.
By integrating technology into everyday teaching practices, the schools are now better equipped to deliver a modern educational experience that supports both academic achievement and personal development.
A Partnership Advancing Quality Education
This meaningful initiative was successfully implemented through the partnership between Vanni Hope and World Vision Lanka under the Shiksha/Kalvi Project. By combining resources and expertise, both organizations continue to work toward strengthening educational opportunities for children in underserved communities across Sri Lanka.
Through investments in digital education infrastructure, this partnership is helping bridge the technology gap in rural schools and ensuring that students have greater access to the tools and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
