Recently, smart boards were officially handed over to two rural schools in Ratnapura District: EMB/Aigburth Tamil Vidyalayam located in the Sooriyakanda area and R/B/Kanaganayagam Tamil Central College located in the Balangoda area, with the aim of enhancing digital education and creating modern learning opportunities for students.
This meaningful initiative was implemented to strengthen information technology education in underserved rural communities. The project supported a total of 1,352 students, helping improve access to interactive and technology based learning environments.
Supporting Students Through Smart Classroom Facilities
The newly handed over smart boards helped transform traditional classroom teaching into more engaging and interactive learning experiences. By integrating digital learning tools into classrooms, students were provided with improved opportunities to strengthen their information technology skills, classroom participation, and understanding of lessons through visual and technology assisted teaching methods.
The initiative also supported teachers by providing modern educational tools that helped make classroom lessons more dynamic, interactive, and accessible for students from Grades 1 to 13.
At EMB/Aigburth Tamil Vidyalayam in the Embilipitiya Zonal Education Area, the project benefitted 540 students studying at the school.
At R/B/Kanaganayagam Tamil Central College in the Balangoda Zonal Education Area, the project benefited 812 students from the surrounding rural community.
Bridging the Digital Divide Through Modern Education
Many rural schools continued to face challenges related to limited educational resources and restricted access to modern technology. Through this initiative, students from underserved communities were provided with improved access to digital learning facilities that could better prepare them for future educational and technological opportunities.
The introduction of smart classroom technology helped bridge the gap between traditional education methods and modern digital learning practices, ensuring that rural students were not left behind in today’s rapidly evolving technological world.
This initiative also supported broader efforts to promote inclusive and equitable quality education while encouraging lifelong learning and digital literacy among rural students.
A Meaningful Investment in the Future of Rural Education
We continue our commitment towards improving educational facilities for underserved communities across Sri Lanka through sustainable and impactful initiatives. The handover of these smart boards marked another important step in empowering rural students with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive in a modern educational environment.
Vanni Hope sincerely appreciates the generous support of VINVA Foundation Australia for making this valuable educational initiative possible and for contributing towards the future development of students in Ratnapura District.
