Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan & Family from Australia, Vanni Hope has successfully established Model Mathematics Classrooms at two rural schools in Madulkelle, Central Province—Sivaneswara Tamil Vidyalayam, Nellimalai, and Kurinji Tamil Vidyalayam.
Breaking Barriers in Rural Mathematics Education
These schools, located in the Waththegama Education Zone of the Kandy District, serve students primarily from estate labourer backgrounds. Access to quality education, especially in mathematics, has long been challenging due to the lack of resources, structured teaching, and trained educators.
This project directly supports over 600 students, offering them a well-equipped environment to learn mathematics more effectively, build confidence, and strengthen problem-solving skills.
Classroom Impact at a Glance
- Kurinji Tamil Vidyalayam: 151 direct beneficiaries, 200 indirect
- Sivaneswara Tamil Vidyalayam: 100 direct beneficiaries, 150 indirect
Each classroom includes educational aids like number blocks, place value charts, learning kits, and measuring tools—all designed to make maths fun and interactive.
Building Futures Through STEM
By improving the learning environment and access to high-quality maths education, this initiative lays the groundwork for future engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers. Students who once struggled with basic numeracy now have the opportunity to dream big and pursue professional careers.
Our Ongoing Commitment
This project is part of Vanni Hope’s broader Education Support Initiatives, targeting the upliftment of rural and estate communities through equal access to quality education.
We thank the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan Family for their trust and partnership in creating a real and lasting impact.
