New Model Mathematics Classroom at Maravanpulo Sakalakalavalli Vidyalayam, Jaffna District

Vanni Hope is pleased to share the successful implementation of a Model Mathematics Classroom at J/Maravanpulo Sakalakalavalli Vidyalayam in Maravanpulo, Jaffna District. This project is part of our broader Education Support Initiative and was generously sponsored by Professor Kumbesan Sandrasegaran.

Supporting a Remote and Underserved School

Located in the Vadamarachchi Education Zone, this school serves a community primarily made up of Tamil-speaking families, many of whom work as daily wage labourers or on local farms. The school, with only 30 students, had limited educational resources and lacked a dedicated mathematics learning space—until now.

Vanni Hope identified this school as one of the most under-resourced in the region and responded by creating a specialised Model Mathematics Classroom equipped with teaching materials tailored to improve subject comprehension, engagement, and exam performance.

Goals and Anticipated Outcomes

The project was designed to:

• Improve mathematics education outcomes for students
• Foster a stronger academic foundation for future opportunities in STEM fields
• Enhance student attendance and participation
• Create long-term academic motivation and confidence
• Lay the groundwork for a tech-savvy future generation from the plantation and farming sector

Project Impact

• 30 students directly benefit from the new model classroom.
• An estimated 80 additional students are expected to benefit indirectly through shared resources, improved learning environments, and school-wide academic enhancements.

This classroom is more than just a physical space—it represents opportunity, equity, and hope for students who face daily socioeconomic barriers.

Our Thanks

We express our heartfelt thanks to Professor Kumbesan Sandrasegaran for his support and trust in Vanni Hope to implement this project. We also thank the teachers and leadership of the school for their cooperation and dedication.
