New Model Mathematics Classroom at J/Madduvil Saraswathi Vidyalayam, Jaffna District

As part of our Education Support initiative, Vanni Hope recently implemented a new Model Mathematics Classroom at J/Madduvil Saraswathi Vidyalayam, located in the village of Madduvil in the Jaffna District.

Supporting a rural school in Madduvil

J/Madduvil Saraswathi Vidyalayam serves children in a rural farming village where access to high-quality educational resources is limited. As mathematics is a core subject that opens doors to further education and employment, this project aimed to enhance students’ learning experiences and outcomes.

What the classroom includes

The classroom has been transformed into a vibrant, resource-rich space, featuring:

  • Curriculum-aligned mathematics learning charts
  • Mathematical models and visual tools
  • Interactive displays that assist both students and teachers in conceptual learning

These tools help shift mathematics learning from rote memorisation to active, visual understanding.

Proudly sponsored by the Prof. Kumbesan Sandrasegarran Family

This project was generously funded by the Prof. Kumbesan Sandrasegarran Family (Australia), whose commitment to rural education continues to make a lasting impact. Their support enabled the full implementation of this model classroom, tailored to the unique needs of the school and community.

Advancing educational equity in the Jaffna District

This project is part of Vanni Hope’s broader effort to bridge educational disparities in Sri Lanka. By building model classrooms in underserved schools, we are creating opportunities for rural students to thrive and access a better future.
