Vanni Hope is pleased to announce the successful completion of a new Model Mathematics Classroom at Onthachimadam Vinayagar Maha Vidyalayam in the Kaluwanchikudy DS Division of Batticaloa District. This project was implemented under our Education Support Initiative and was generously sponsored by the Soundar Thevanayagam Family in Australia.
Improving Mathematics Education in a Remote School
Located in a remote area, this school serves 496 students from Grades 1 to 13. The Model Mathematics Classroom was introduced to support the development of key skills in areas such as arithmetic, graphing, data analysis, and real-world problem solving. By equipping students with access to tools such as learning blocks, decimal kits, and number charts, the classroom fosters practical and interactive learning.
Supporting Exam Success and Academic Growth
This initiative is part of Vanni Hope’s broader mission to enhance student performance and interest in mathematics, especially in under-resourced schools. The classroom is designed to help students grasp core concepts more effectively, leading to improved exam performance, increased school attendance, and greater interest in pursuing further education in STEM fields.
A Holistic Approach to Learning
The project also emphasises community involvement. By working closely with educators and families, we aim to reinforce mathematical learning beyond the classroom. This collaborative approach enables students to apply mathematical concepts in everyday life, fostering confident learners with strong analytical thinking skills.
