Groundnut Cultivation Project Empowers Women-Headed Families in Mullaitivu

Vanni Hope, in partnership with the People’s Service Council (PSC), is excited to share the mid-term evaluation of our Groundnut Cultivation Project in Kokkilai and Karunatukerni, located in the Mullaitivu District. Sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Canning and Willetton (Western Australia), this project specifically focuses on empowering women-headed families by providing them with the tools and training necessary to cultivate groundnuts, a crop known for its nutritional and economic value.

This initiative is part of our broader regenerative farming efforts aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture. The project is helping women-headed families improve their food security and economic stability by equipping them with essential farming techniques. Groundnuts are an ideal crop for this purpose, offering both a stable food source and a means to generate additional income for these families. The focus on sustainable and regenerative farming methods ensures that this initiative not only benefits the current generation but also conserves the environment for future farming efforts.

The mid-term evaluation highlights promising results, with reports of increased crop yields and enhanced soil health, showcasing the hard work and dedication of these women-headed families. Vanni Hope, alongside its sponsors, remains committed to continuing the project and empowering these families to build sustainable livelihoods.
