As part of our ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and community support across Sri Lanka, the Vanni Hope team recently conducted field visits to several key locations in the Batticaloa District. These visits aimed to assess ongoing projects, engage with local communities, and identify areas where additional support is needed.
Joining the team on these visits were Vanni Hope’s volunteer health consultants, who played a vital role in providing medical insights and advice to improve healthcare services in the region.
Locations Visited by the Team
1. Kathiraveli Hospital
The team visited Kathiraveli Hospital to follow up on the previously donated medical equipment, including the multiparameter monitor, and to meet with hospital staff. Discussions focused on how Vanni Hope can continue to support the hospital’s needs to improve patient care in this rural area.
2. Kattumurivu Village
The team visited Kattumurivu Village, a community that has faced numerous challenges due to recent floods. The visit included discussions with local families and an assessment of emergency relief efforts provided by Vanni Hope, such as the recent free medical camp conducted in the village.
3. Aandankulam Village
In Aandankulam Village, the team followed up on emergency relief projects that distributed food and non-food items to families affected by flooding. The team also gathered feedback from beneficiaries to better understand how these efforts have impacted their recovery process.
4. Batticaloa Teaching Hospital
During the visit to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, the team met with hospital administrators and staff to explore potential areas of support. Discussions included future plans for providing medical equipment and conducting wellness programs to improve healthcare services in the district.
5. Vaharai DS Division
The final stop was the Vaharai DS Division, where the team engaged with local community leaders to discuss ongoing community development projects. This visit also focused on identifying new initiatives that can enhance the well-being of families living in this rural area.
