At Vanni Hope, we believe that small actions can lead to big impacts—and sometimes, it all starts with a simple message.
Yesterday, our team visited a deserving family in Ananthapuri – Uppuveli, located in the Trincomalee District, to deliver much-needed support. Jegatheeswary, a 39-year-old widow, has been working tirelessly to raise her four children after the tragic passing of her husband three years ago. Despite her efforts, life hasn’t been easy.
Her eldest son is currently pursuing his Advanced Level studies, her second child is in 9th grade, and her younger son earned a place in Grade 5 through a scholarship. Her youngest, just three years old, stays at home under her care. Adding to her responsibilities, Jegatheeswary also cares for her elderly mother. Sadly, due to recent health complications, she has been unable to continue her domestic house cleaning work, leaving the family in a vulnerable state. The home they currently live in is not under their ownership, adding further strain to their situation.
An Unexpected Helping Hand
This story took a heartwarming turn when Dr. Shashi Weeratunga from Navy Hospital Trincomalee reached out to Vanni Hope via Instagram. A simple DM (Direct Message) expressing his desire to help became the catalyst for meaningful change. Our social media team put him in contact with our Chairman, Mr. Ranjan Sivagnanasundaram, and the donation process was quickly coordinated.
But Dr. Weeratunga’s generosity didn’t stop there. He personally joined our team on the visit to Ananthapuri – Uppuveli, where he met with Jegatheeswary and her family, personally handing over the donations. His presence not only highlighted his compassion but also brought a personal touch to the act of giving.
Through Dr. Weeratunga’s generosity, the family received:
- Rs. 10,000 worth of dry food items to help sustain them during this difficult period.
- A cash donation of Rs. 5,000 specifically to cover the cost of shoes and uniform stitching for the children, ensuring they can continue their education without additional financial strain.
Our Deepest Gratitude
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Weeratunga for his kindness and generosity. His proactive approach, from initiating contact through Instagram to personally participating in the donation handover, serves as a powerful reminder that genuine impact begins with care and action.
The Power of Reaching Out
This act of kindness highlights how social media can be a bridge to real-world impact. What started as a simple message turned into life-changing support for a family in need. It’s a reminder that you don’t need to run a large campaign or make massive donations to make a difference—sometimes, all it takes is the willingness to reach out.
You Can Make a Difference Too
This story is more than just about one family—it’s about the potential we all have to create positive change. If you see a need or want to support families like Jegatheeswary’s, don’t hesitate to send us a message. A simple DM can set powerful things in motion.
Every message matters. Every act of kindness counts.
