We are proud to share that Thevapriya, Denishka and Rashika, all students supported through our Student Sponsorship Program, have successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree at the recent Convocation Ceremony held at the University of Jaffna. Their achievement reflects years of perseverance, sacrifice and determination. It also highlights the long-term impact of sustained educational support.
Our Founding Chairman, Mr Ranjan Sivagnanasundaram, personally attended the graduation ceremony to congratulate the students, as pictured. As a team, we believe in being present and actively involved in the journeys of the students we support. Their progress matters to us, and our commitment extends well beyond financial sponsorship.
Thevapriya
Thevapriya’s journey has been shaped by resilience in the face of personal loss. She lost her father at a young age, and her mother, Manjula, served as a warden at our Shakthy Illam Girls Home in Arasadithivu, Batticaloa District. Sadly, her mother passed away last year after battling cancer. She has a younger sister who she also looks after now. Despite these hardships, Thevapriya remained focused on her studies and successfully completed her law degree.
We sincerely thank the Sharenya Mahesan Foundation from Australia for supporting her during a deeply challenging period of her life. That support provided stability and encouragement when it was most needed. Her graduation honours her parents’ sacrifices and reflects her strength and determination.
Denishka
Denishka has made history as the first person from her village of Vammivaddavan in Vaharai to graduate as a lawyer. She comes from a low-income household where her father works as a daily wage labourer, and her mother is a homemaker. Growing up with two brothers, she faced financial challenges that could have limited her opportunities.
We gratefully acknowledge Denishka’s sponsor Naren Narendran from Australia
for believing in her potential and supporting her journey. Their generosity has not only transformed her life but has also inspired her entire community. She now stands as a role model for young students in rural villages who aspire to pursue professional careers.
Rashika
Rashika comes from a tea plantation family in the Kandy District, where both of her parents are daily labourers. Life in the upcountry plantation sector is often marked by economic hardship and limited opportunity. Despite these challenges, Rashika remained disciplined and committed to completing her law degree.
We thank Rashika’s sponsor Esha & Gowrie Sharveshwara from Canada for making this milestone possible. Their continued support has enabled her to move closer to long-term professional independence and stability.
Continuing Support Towards Attorney at Law Qualification
All three graduates are now preparing to qualify as Attorneys at Law. Our support does not end at graduation. We will continue sponsoring them as they undertake their professional legal training and prepare for the Attorney-at-Law examinations. This ongoing commitment reflects our commitment to ensuring students are supported through important career transitions.
We are confident that Thevapriya, Denishka and Rashika will continue to achieve great success in their legal professions and make meaningful contributions to society.
If you would like to sponsor a student and be the reason someone smiles today, we invite you to join our Student Sponsorship Program and help empower the next generation of legal professionals across Sri Lanka.
