As part of Vanni Hope’s Education Support Initiative, we are proud to celebrate six exceptional students who have successfully completed their G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examinations. Each of these students comes from a disadvantaged background, yet they’ve persevered through hardship, loss, and financial uncertainty. With the support of our generous sponsors across Australia and the United States, these young minds have not only found relief from economic burdens but also gained the confidence and encouragement to pursue a brighter future.

Sponsored by Vanni Hope – Australia
From Arukal Madam in Jaffna, R. Vinodan is a determined student of Kokkuvil Hindu College who passed the GCE A/L examination in the Commerce stream with two C grades and one S. These results speak volumes about his drive, particularly given the severe financial constraints his family faces.
Vinodan’s father, a former fighter, lost his leg during the final battle in the Vanni. Unable to work, he now depends on his wife’s modest income to support their three children. Despite this, Vinodan has remained focused on his studies, taking pride in every step of progress. With support from Vanni Hope, he has been able to continue his studies without the weight of financial uncertainty clouding his ambitions. He hopes to pursue a career in business and inspire others in his community.

His results are not just academic milestones—they’re testaments to years of quiet strength and daily resilience.
Raised by his mother, a hardworking tailor, Thiyarshan has never known the support of a father figure. His father has been absent for 15 years, leaving his mother to raise both him and his younger brother alone. Despite the emotional and financial strain, Thiyarshan persevered and remained focused on his goals. She has always been drawn to numbers and logic, and her calm yet determined nature made her a favourite among her teachers. Danushiya’s story is one of courage in the face of adversity. A student from Maria Estate in Lindulla, she completed her A/Ls in the Arts stream with excellent results: A, B, and C. Her academic excellence shines even brighter against the backdrop of the hardship her family has endured.
Following the death of her father in 2019 due to kidney failure, Danushiya’s mother became the family’s sole breadwinner, working on tea estates to support her three children. The emotional and financial toll was heavy, but Danushiya remained resolute. Her success is a result of sheer determination, long study nights, and the unconditional love of her mother. The sponsorship from Vanni Hope provided the encouragement she needed to pursue higher education, and she now aspires to become a social worker to support other vulnerable families.

In 2024, Lipna lost her father to kidney failure. The shock of losing her role model and protector was immense. Her mother, now the sole income earner, works as a daily wage labourer to support Lipna and her two brothers. Amidst this grief, Lipna immersed herself in her studies, knowing that her academic success could change her family’s path. The Gnanendran Foundation stepped in to ensure she had the support she needed. She now aspires to enter the field of biotechnology and contribute to healthcare solutions in rural Sri Lanka.

Her father earns a minimal income as a day labourer, and her mother works on the tea plantations. Despite these pressures, Sivaranjini remained steadfast in her commitment to education. The support from the Gnanendran Foundation provided more than just financial relief—it was a signal that someone believed in her potential. She hopes to pursue engineering and one day build infrastructure that improves living conditions in Sri Lanka’s estate regions.
