From VH Sponsored Students to VH Field Officers: Shalini and Dilu Graduate and Now Give Back

At Vanni Hope, we believe in investing in individuals, not just to change their own futures, but so they can go on to uplift their communities. Two such inspiring stories are those of Shalini Ravi and Diliksikka Jegatheeswaran (Dilu), who have both completed their studies with the support of our sponsorship program and are now part of the Vanni Hope team, serving as dedicated field officers.

Shalini’s Journey: A Grateful Graduate

Hailing from Periyaveli, Mallikaithivu in Muthur, Shalini’s journey with Vanni Hope began as a sponsored student. With our support, she pursued and completed a Bachelor of Science in Geographical Information Science. In a heartfelt letter addressed to our team upon her graduation, she wrote:

“This important milestone in my life would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship and support I received from Vanni Hope… Your support gave me the opportunity to focus on my studies without the burden of financial worries. It has changed my life, and I will always be grateful.”

Shalini’s commitment to education and community service has now come full circle, as she takes on the role of a field officer at Vanni Hope. We are incredibly proud to have her on our team, where she leverages her experience and passion to empower others.

Dilu’s Dedication: From Student to Social Worker

Dilu completed her Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) at the University of Peradeniya, graduating with Second Class Upper Division. Throughout her studies, she developed a strong foundation in areas such as counselling, social policy, community development, and case management.

Dilu first joined Vanni Hope as an intern, where her work ethic and values stood out. After graduation—and despite facing personal hardships, including the recent passing of her father, she accepted a full-time role with us as a field officer. Her heartfelt words say it all:

During my academic journey, you and your dedicated team provided immense support, especially throughout my internship and practical training. Your guidance and encouragement greatly contributed to my growth and confidence in the field of social work.”
