Smart Board Benefits 646 Students at St. Coombs Maha Vidyalaya

A Smart Board was officially handed over to CP/N/ST Coombs Maha Vidyalaya in the Talawakelle area of Nuwara Eliya District as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening digital education and expanding access to modern learning opportunities for rural students.

The project was implemented through the Smart Board Education Program jointly launched by Vanni Hope and World Vision Lanka, which seeks to provide advanced learning facilities to 50 selected schools across Sri Lanka. Benefiting approximately 646 students from Grades 1 to 13, the initiative was introduced to enhance information technology literacy and create greater access to innovative educational resources.

Expanding Access to Modern Educational Technology

The introduction of the Smart Board marked an important milestone in strengthening the school’s digital learning infrastructure. Students now have access to interactive educational technology that supports visual learning, classroom participation, and greater engagement during lessons.

The facility will enable teachers to incorporate digital learning methods into their daily teaching practices while creating more dynamic and effective learning experiences for students.

Supporting Students in Rural Communities

Located in the Talawakelle area of Nuwara Eliya District, CP/N/ST Coombs Maha Vidyalaya serves children from surrounding plantation and rural communities. Access to modern educational technology remains an important requirement for ensuring that students receive learning opportunities comparable to those available in more urban settings.

The Smart Board was provided to help bridge this gap and ensure that students can benefit from technology driven educational experiences that support their academic growth and development.

Developing Essential Digital Literacy Skills

The initiative was implemented with the objective of strengthening students’ information technology knowledge and digital literacy skills. As technology continues to play an increasingly important role in education and employment, providing students with opportunities to engage with digital learning tools has become essential.

The Smart Board will support the development of practical technology skills while encouraging curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and active participation within the classroom environment.

Creating Brighter Opportunities for Future Generations

By improving digital education facilities and expanding access to innovative learning resources, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the overall quality of teaching and learning at the school. The investment will help create an educational environment that better prepares students for future educational pathways and career opportunities.

This meaningful initiative was successfully implemented through the partnership between Vanni Hope and World Vision Lanka under the Shiksha/Kalvi Project, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening rural education and creating lasting opportunities for children across Sri Lanka.
