In a significant step toward strengthening digital education in rural Sri Lanka, Smart Boards were officially handed over to GIRI/Arakyala Muslim Maha Vidyalayam in the Giriulla area of Kurunegala District and R/Jeilani Central Collegein the Balangoda area of Ratnapura District.
The initiative was implemented to enhance information technology literacy among students and expand access to modern digital learning opportunities. Benefiting a total of 2,150 students, the project introduced innovative educational technology that will support more effective teaching and learning experiences within both school communities.
Expanding Access to Modern Educational Technology
Access to digital learning tools continues to play an increasingly important role in preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving world. The newly provided Smart Boards were introduced to help bridge the technology gap often experienced by students in rural schools.
The advanced learning facilities will enable teachers to deliver lessons using interactive digital content while creating more engaging classroom experiences that encourage active student participation and understanding.
Supporting Muslim and Tamil Students Through Inclusive Education
The project was particularly meaningful as it supported both Muslim and Tamil students studying together within these school communities. By providing equal access to modern educational technology, the initiative promoted inclusive learning opportunities while ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds could benefit from enhanced digital resources.
The Smart Boards will help create learning environments where students can develop knowledge, skills, and confidence through greater exposure to technology based education.
Strengthening Information Technology Literacy
The primary objective of the project was to improve students’ information technology literacy and digital competencies. As technology continues to transform education and employment opportunities worldwide, developing digital skills has become increasingly important for future success.
The newly introduced Smart Boards will provide students with greater opportunities to engage with digital content, improve computer related knowledge, and strengthen essential technological skills that will support their academic and professional aspirations.
The Smart Boards were provided to support teachers in delivering lessons more effectively while creating a more interactive classroom environment. Through visual demonstrations, multimedia resources, and digital learning activities, students can experience lessons in a more engaging and meaningful manner.
The initiative is expected to improve classroom participation, increase student interest in learning, and contribute to stronger educational outcomes across both schools.
Investing in the Future of Rural Education
The project represented an important investment in the educational development of rural communities in Kurunegala and Ratnapura Districts. By strengthening digital education infrastructure, the initiative has created new opportunities for students to access modern learning experiences and develop skills required for the future.
This meaningful initiative was generously sponsored by Dr. Sabaratnam Somasundaram and Prof. Sabaratnam Prathaban and implemented by Vanni Hope to promote digital education, strengthen information technology literacy, and create lasting educational opportunities for rural students across Sri Lanka.
