A New Era of Education at CP/GP/Kathiresan Hindu Ladies College

We proudly announce the successful completion of an Education Support Project marking a significant milestone in advancing digital education in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. The initiative introduced a Smart Classroom at CP/GP/Kathiresan Hindu Ladies College in the Nawalapitiya DS Division, Kandy District, providing over 800 students with transformative access to modern learning technology.

The grand opening ceremony, held on October 22, 2025, celebrated the installation of the school’s first Smart Board, symbolizing a major leap towards digital empowerment and inclusive education in rural communities.

Driving Educational Transformation through Technology

Through this project, Vanni Hope provided a Smart Board (All-in-One Model), Wi-Fi connectivity, a training program for teachers, and operational support to ensure smooth integration and long term sustainability. The new Smart Classroom allows teachers to deliver more engaging lessons and enables students to experience interactive, visual, and collaborative learning.

Transformative Impact on Students and Teachers

With over 800 students from grades 1–13 now benefiting, the Smart Board has already begun to reshape learning outcomes at CP/GP/Kathiresan Hindu Ladies College. The introduction of digital tools encourages curiosity, collaboration, and confidence among students, vital skills for success in the 21st century.

Teachers are now equipped with interactive teaching resources that support differentiated learning and help them cater to the diverse needs of their classrooms. This technological integration not only enhances academic performance but also strengthens community trust in local education systems.

The project followed a thorough site verification and needs assessment process led by Vanni Hope’s local representatives. The Kathiresan Hindu Ladies College, located in Gampola, Kandy, was identified as an ideal beneficiary due to its strong student enrollment, committed teaching staff, and existing infrastructure readiness.

The school serves grades 1 through 13 and caters primarily to Tamil speaking students in a rural community where access to modern learning tools has historically been limited. Through this initiative, both students and teachers now have opportunities to experience technology driven education for the first time.

To ensure sustainability, teacher training sessions were conducted to familiarize staff with the smart board’s functions, digital lesson design, and maintenance. Operational support and follow up monitoring were also built into the project framework to guarantee long-term effectiveness.

Digital learning plays a critical role in enhancing student engagement and comprehension, particularly in underserved rural regions. In many areas across Sri Lanka, students face limited access to quality teaching materials and technology. Vanni Hope recognized this gap and prioritized digital inclusion as a cornerstone of its education strategy.
