Vanni Hope is proud to announce the successful implementation of a School Computer initiative under our Education Support projects. With the generous sponsorship from the Lakshmana Sasitharan Family in Australia, we provided computers to CP/WT/Vivekananda Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Kundasale, Kandy District—an important step toward bridging the digital divide in rural Sri Lanka.
Addressing Educational Disparity in Rural Communities
Located in the Wattegama Education Zone, CP/WT/Vivekananda Tamil Maha Vidyalayam serves a community significantly affected by economic hardship. With many parents working as daily wage earners or plantation labourers, students often face barriers to accessing modern learning resources—particularly in the area of computer literacy.
Recognising this gap, Vanni Hope identified the school as a priority site for intervention. Through this project, we provided essential computing equipment to support the creation of a computer classroom, directly benefitting 320 students and their teachers.
Enhancing Learning Through Technology
The introduction of computers allows students and teachers to:
- Participate in interactive and virtual learning experiences
- Build foundational computer literacy and digital skills
- Increase engagement and improve academic performance
- Prepare for higher education and employment opportunities in the digital era
The project is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal #4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
From Planning to Implementation
This initiative included several key stages:
- Consultation with school and educational authorities
- Procurement and installation of equipment
- Technical training and classroom setup
- Ongoing monitoring and evaluation
We are proud to have successfully completed the project between 26 January and 15 February 2025, and we look forward to seeing the long-term impact this will have on the students’ academic and professional journeys.
Sustainability and Ongoing Support
In collaboration with the Department of Education and the school’s management committee, we are committed to ensuring the sustainability of this project. Future ICT-related training for teachers and routine maintenance will ensure the equipment continues to serve the community effectively.
This is one more example of how we are working to create lasting, transformative change in the education landscape of Sri Lanka.
