As part of our Education Support Initiative, Vanni Hope has successfully implemented a School Computers Project at R/Galaboda Tamil Vidyalayam in Galella, Rathnapura District. This impactful initiative was generously sponsored by the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan Family from Australia.
Meeting the Needs of an Underserved Community
Galaboda Tamil Vidyalayam caters to around 150 students, the majority of whom come from plantation worker and daily wage-earning families. These students face numerous challenges, including limited access to basic educational tools—especially in the area of computer literacy.
Prior to this intervention, the school had no dedicated computer learning facilities, making it difficult for students to gain essential digital skills that are increasingly important in both education and employment.
Delivering Practical Digital Support
To address this gap, Vanni Hope:
- Donated two desktop computers
- Helped establish a basic computer learning setup within the school
- Provided technical support to ensure smooth implementation
These computers will enable students to:
- Develop essential ICT skills from a young age
- Engage with modern learning methods and online educational tools
- Build confidence and familiarity with digital technologies
Creating Long-Term Educational Impact
This project not only enriches the current educational environment but also lays the groundwork for broader academic and career opportunities for students. Access to computer education equips students with the tools they need to participate fully in the digital world, especially those from rural and disadvantaged communities.
We thank the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan Family for their commitment to supporting meaningful change in Sri Lanka’s rural education sector.
