We are pleased to share the completion of an education support initiative at TK/St. Xavier Vidyalaya in Aligambay, Alayadibembu Division, Ampara District. Through this project, essential resources, including paper, classroom whiteboards and toner for copying equipment, were provided to strengthen teaching and learning activities.
This initiative was generously sponsored by the Tennyson and Vinitha Rodrigo Trust and implemented by Vanni Hope as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students in underserved communities.
Supporting Education in a Remote Indigenous Community
TK/St. Xavier Vidyalaya serves a community of indigenous families who speak Malayalam. The school provides education to 195 students from Grade 1 to Grade 11 and plays a vital role in supporting students despite challenging living conditions.
The village of Aligambay faces significant infrastructure limitations. Roads leading to the area are in poor condition, and families must travel nearly 12 miles to access essential services and medical care. These challenges place additional pressure on students and teachers who are already navigating limited resources.
Despite these hardships, the resilience and dedication of both students and staff remain commendable. In addition to regular schooling, special classes are conducted to enhance learning opportunities and improve academic outcomes.
Strengthening Classroom Teaching and Learning
Whiteboards are a fundamental classroom tool that allows teachers to deliver lessons clearly and interactively. The provision of new whiteboards enhances daily instruction and improves student engagement during lessons.
In addition, access to paper and toner ensures that teachers can print worksheets, examination papers, learning materials and school notices. In rural schools where digital access may be limited, printed materials remain essential for effective education.
By providing these resources, this project supports improved lesson delivery, smoother examination processes and better communication within the school community.
Investing in Long-Term Educational Opportunity
Reliable access to basic classroom tools contributes directly to improved academic performance and student confidence. When teachers have the materials they need, students benefit from consistent and structured learning environments.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Tennyson and Vinitha Rodrigo Trust for sponsoring this initiative. Their generosity is making a meaningful difference in the lives of students in Aligambay.
At Vanni Hope, we remain committed to ensuring that children in rural and marginalised communities have access to the tools they need to succeed in their education.
