Building Confidence in Mathematics: New Classroom Supports 350 Students in Kannakipuram

A Mathematics Classroom was handed over to TK/Kannaki Vidyalaya in Kannakipuram, Ampara District, providing 350 students from Grades 1 to 11 with educational resources to strengthen the teaching and learning of mathematics. 

The initiative created an environment where students could engage with mathematics through practical activities and the use of mathematical tools, helping them strengthen their understanding of key concepts while developing important analytical and problem solving skills.

Making Mathematics More Engaging

The Mathematics Classroom provided students with resources that supported a more practical and interactive approach to learning.

Through hands on activities and educational materials, students were given opportunities to explore mathematical applications, connections, statistics, data graphing, and other practical skills. The approach was designed to help students understand mathematical concepts more effectively while encouraging greater interest in the subject. 

Strengthening Learning at TK/Kannaki Vidyalaya

Located in Kannakipuram in Ampara District, TK/Kannaki Vidyalaya served 350 students across Grades 1 to 11.

The Mathematics Classroom strengthened the resources available to the school and supported students in developing fundamental mathematical skills, including working with decimals, multiplication, division, and number manipulation. Interactive resources and practical learning opportunities helped students engage with these concepts beyond traditional classroom instruction.

Supporting Academic Development

The initiative aimed to contribute to stronger mathematics examination results, improved academic performance, higher educational standards, and increased school attendance.

By strengthening mathematics education, the project also sought to support more students in progressing towards higher education and provide teachers with resources that could enhance the quality of mathematics instruction. 

Connecting Mathematics to Everyday Life

The approach to mathematics education extended beyond providing resources within the classroom. It also recognised the importance of involving parents and communities in encouraging students to practise and apply mathematical concepts in everyday situations.

This broader approach helped reinforce what students learned at school while encouraging them to recognise the practical role mathematics could play in their daily lives.

Expanding Opportunities Through Education

The handover of the Mathematics Classroom at TK/Kannaki Vidyalaya strengthened the learning environment available to 350 students and provided additional opportunities to develop mathematical knowledge through practical and interactive learning.
