On 22 June 2024, the talented performers from the Agal Dance Company took the stage at Lennox Theatre, Riverside Theatres Parramatta, for their captivating Bharathanatyam performance, “In NAYAM”—a powerful artistic showcase that also served a meaningful purpose. This event was a fundraiser for Vanni Hope, with all proceeds going directly to support our community development projects in Sri Lanka.
“In NAYAM” wasn’t just a dance performance—it was a celebration of culture, identity, and community. Agal Dance Company, based in Sydney, has been at the forefront of promoting Bharathanatyam—a classical South Indian dance form—since its founding in 2018. Known for its dedication to innovation within traditional frameworks, the company uses dance as a medium to explore contemporary issues faced by the South Asian diaspora in Australia. Their performances not only preserve cultural heritage but also make it relevant to today’s world. The event was supported by Vanni Hope and the City of Parramatta Council.
This event beautifully aligned with Vanni Hope’s mission of creating sustainable and empowering opportunities for disadvantaged communities across Sri Lanka. Thanks to the generosity of the audience and the incredible efforts of Agal Dance Company, the funds raised will directly contribute to vital projects across Sri Lanka, including education support, healthcare services, clean water access, and community development initiatives.
