Vanni Hope is proud to share the successful completion of a Smart Classroom project at CP/W/Tulloes Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Udapussellawa, Nuwara Eliya, bringing digital learning facilities to 575 students studying from Grades 6 to 13. This project marks another important step in expanding access to quality digital education in rural Sri Lanka.
The Smart Classroom was established to support students and teachers in a school serving a predominantly Tamil-speaking rural community, where access to modern educational technology has historically been limited. By integrating digital tools into everyday teaching, this initiative helps bridge the digital divide and ensures students are better prepared for today’s learning environment.
Why a Smart Classroom Was Needed
While urban schools increasingly benefit from digital learning tools, many rural schools continue to rely solely on traditional teaching methods due to limited infrastructure and resources. At CP/W/Tulloes Tamil Maha Vidyalayam, teachers and students faced challenges accessing interactive content, visual learning materials, and modern teaching aids.
Following a site visit and needs assessment carried out by the Vanni Hope team in consultation with the school leadership, this school was identified as a strong candidate for digital learning support due to its student population size, academic performance, and commitment to improving educational outcomes.
What the Project Delivered
Through this project, we installed a fully equipped Smart Classroom that included:
- An all-in-one smart board panel
- Wi-Fi connectivity
- Teacher training on using the smart board effectively
- A UPS system to protect equipment from power fluctuations
- Classroom name board and supporting infrastructure
These additions allow teachers to deliver more engaging lessons, incorporate multimedia resources, and support different learning styles within the classroom.
Impact on Students and Teachers
With access to a Smart Classroom, students can now benefit from interactive lessons, visual explanations, and digital resources that enhance understanding and retention. Teachers are empowered to deliver dynamic lessons, access online educational content, and adapt teaching methods to better suit student needs.
This project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
