Smart Classroom Established at Chenkalady Central College in Batticaloa

At Vanni Hope, we believe that real impact comes not just from providing resources, but from ensuring those resources are used to their full potential. That belief shaped our recent completion of a smart classroom at BT/KK/Chenkalady Central College, located in the Batticaloa District. This project is part of our broader Education Support Initiative, specifically under our Smart Classrooms program.

The school, which serves over 2,100 students across five academic streams, had long struggled without access to modern teaching tools. Thanks to the generosity of our joint sponsors, Dr. Gajaen Niranjan, Dr. Kantha Niranjan, Prof. Sabaratnam Prathaban, and Dr. Sabaratnam Somasundaram, we were able to equip the school with a comprehensive smart classroom setup, including a smartboard, laptop, Wi-Fi connectivity, and supporting accessories.

More Than Just a Board

But the work didn’t stop there.

Many organisations deliver equipment, take photos, and then leave. But what’s the point of a smart classroom if it ends up gathering dust? At Vanni Hope, we take a different approach. We ensure that every smart classroom we implement comes with the training, guidance, and follow-up necessary to make it an active and engaging part of student learning.

For Chenkalady Central College, this meant running a full-day teacher training session delivered by a certified Smart Board Master Trainer. The workshop was kindly sponsored by the Theivanayakam Soundararasa Family from Australia, and covered everything from the basics of operating the board to designing interactive lessons, managing multimedia resources, and troubleshooting. Teachers were given the time and space to practise using the tools in a supportive environment, and left the session ready to integrate smart technology into their daily classroom practice.

Long-Term Learning

This kind of training is not a one-off event. Every smart classroom we install comes with structured onboarding for teachers and strategic follow-up to ensure the equipment remains a living part of the learning ecosystem. We’re committed to checking in, listening to feedback, and making sure the tools we provide are having the intended effect.

Thanks to this project, students at Chenkalady Central College now have access to a richer, more interactive learning experience. Teachers are empowered, students are engaged, and the pathway to quality education has become that much stronger.
