As part of our Education Support Initiative, Vanni Hope has successfully established a Model Mathematics Classroom at STR/Veeramunai R.K.M Maha Vidyalayam, located in Sammanthurai, Ampara District. This project is now supporting 474 students from Grades 1 to 5 by providing them with engaging, hands-on resources to learn mathematics more effectively.
This remote school has long faced challenges with limited access to teaching tools that promote applied learning. With over 500 students enrolled, this new learning space is already transforming how children understand and apply mathematical concepts in their everyday lives.
Bringing Maths to Life
The Model Mathematics Classroom equips students with resources that make learning maths interactive and enjoyable. Children can now explore topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and graphing through games, puzzles, and visual aids. These methods encourage critical thinking, participation, and long-term retention of key concepts.
This approach also enhances students’ confidence and boosts their classroom attendance and engagement. For teachers, it provides structured tools to deliver lessons in ways that are both creative and curriculum-aligned.
A Grateful Acknowledgement
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Malathi Waran for her generous sponsorship of this initiative. Her continued support has enabled Vanni Hope to bring meaningful change to rural classrooms like this one.
By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, brighter future for the children of Sammanthurai and beyond.
