Empowering Rural Students Through Model Mathematics Classrooms at R Sri Namagal Vidyalayam and R Lellopitiya Tamil Vidyalayam

Vanni Hope is proud to announce the successful completion of two Model Mathematics Classrooms at R/Sri Namagal Vidyalayam and R/Lellopitiya Tamil Vidyalayam, both located in the Rathnapura District. These projects were generously sponsored by the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan Family (Australia) under our Education Support Initiative. They represent an important step towards improving mathematics education for underprivileged students in rural Sri Lanka.

Transforming Mathematics Education in Rural Sri Lanka

Both R/Sri Namagal Vidyalayam and R/Lellopitiya Tamil Vidyalayam are situated in remote communities where most families work as daily wage labourers or on farms. Students in these areas have traditionally lacked access to quality mathematics education due to limited resources, a shortage of mathematics teachers, and a lack of tailored learning environments.

Recognising these challenges, Vanni Hope stepped in to establish Model Mathematics Classrooms designed to make learning engaging, practical, and accessible. Through the provision of essential mathematics teaching equipment and a supportive environment, we aim to inspire students to develop a strong foundation in mathematics and pursue higher education and professional careers.

Project Impact

At R/Sri Namagal Vidyalayam, over 115 students now benefit directly from the new classroom, with an additional 300+ students expected to benefit indirectly through school-wide academic improvements.

At R/Lellopitiya Tamil Vidyalayam, the classroom directly supports 90 students, with a broader impact expected for around 200 more students.

Key anticipated outcomes from both projects include:

  • Improved mathematics exam results and academic performance

  • Increased school attendance and academic engagement

  • Stronger pathways for students to pursue careers in engineering, technology, and science

  • Empowerment of students from plantation and rural communities through education

  • Building a tech-savvy, future-ready generation

Gratitude and Vision

We sincerely thank the Lakshmana Iyer Sasitharan Family for their unwavering support and commitment to education development in Sri Lanka’s rural communities. Their sponsorship is helping to break the cycle of disadvantage and create new opportunities for hundreds of students.

At Vanni Hope, we believe every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of where they live. These completed projects reaffirm our mission to close educational gaps, uplift rural schools, and be the reason someone smiles today.
